The voice of the series is singular and unique, and the consistency of Peter Parker’s characterization and writing makes him a lot more like Jack Knight than the original Spider-Man. Anyway I highly recommend this purchasing this edition as opposed to the six individual volumes because trust me once Parker starts getting into his quick witted villain quips, you'll be flying through this graphic novel.News of Brian Michael Bendis signing an exclusive contract with DC had me thinking about Ultimate Spider-Man, arguably the best thing he’s ever written. It allows new readers to the Spider-Man universe to jump right in without having to worry about continuity of the past four decades not to mention the various tie-ins. What with the whole 40+ years of back story, which is why I was grateful to Marvel for creating the "Ultimate" series. Sorry to say, but aside from the cartoon in the 90's (along with the X-Men, Batman and Superman made this one of the best periods for superhero cartoons in my humble opinion) I had never really gotten to reading any of the Spider-Man comics and to be honest to you it seemed fairly daunting. The Barnes & Noble Edition contains the first 6 volumes of the comic (the next one being Vol. I've been wanted to get into this series, but had trouble finding something that would allow me to delve right into a decent chunk of it right from the get go. Whew! I can already tell that the rest of this series is going to be awesome.
